Regular polygons

8.95

Every quilter is familiar with the beautiful old quilts made from hexagons. But what exactly is a hexagon? A hexagon is a regular polygon. A regular polygon features sides of all the same length, and its angles are all the same size. A hexagon is a regular polygon with six sides and therefore six angles. You’ll see that there are seven regular polygons on this quilt. The red one is a hexagon. Polygons all have Greek names. From inside to outside:

  • a regular triangle/trigon
  • a regular quadrilateral/tetragon, though we usually call a regular quadrilateral a square
  • a regular pentagon
  • a regular hexagon
  • a regular heptagon or septagon (Latin)
  • a regular octagon
  • a regular nonagon (Latin) or enneagon

The sizes are: 63 x 63 cm.
